During a moving speech at the 2006 convention for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, CNN news anchor Thomas Roberts came out as gay. With bright blue eyes and an all-American look, Roberts instantly became a symbol of LGBT inclusion at a time when coming out publicly could mean career suicide. Roberts never faltered, and has since spoken out about sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and about LGBT rights nationwide. In 2015, Roberts made history when he became the host of NBC Nightly News -- the first out TV news anchor for a major network.
