It's kind of sad, really: Simply because Liza Minnelli has been such a dominating force in entertainment for so long, she has--already--long been considered over the hill. Sure, she's been around the block, as a memoir released last year most recently attested, but the woman who brought us Cabaret, Liza with a Z! and Lucille Austero is only turning 70 on March 12. In senior terms, she's still a spring chicken.
While Liza has been more rare in the spotlight lately, the moments where she has garnered attention have been high notes. A true veteran performer who knows the show must go on --even when it means taking an Uber through the night-- Ms M. has continued to perform live all over the place, even dueting with Judy- and Liza-obssessed crooner Rufus Wainwright two years ago.
One of the few artists who can claim 'EGOT' status (a star who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), Minnelli has rightfully earned her place in the pantheon of the world's most legendary performers. And, since imitation is the highest form of flattery, why not smile upon this gem from Liza-- er, Kristen Wiig:
Happy Birthday, Liza!
