A boy can dream -- but with expert tips from Hollywood star groomer Jason Schneidman, you're getting that much closer...
Known as "The Men's Groomer" in Hollywood, Jason Schneidman is the mane man for A-Listers like Bruno Mars, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe, and our subject of the day, Mr Hugh Jackman.
Talking to us from the Chris McMillan salon in Beverly Hills, Schneidman shares the hairstyling and skincare tips he's been applying throughout Jackman's press tour for his new movie The Wolverine, which opens today.
"First and foremost," Schneidman says,
"I always ask Hugh to wash his hair the morning before an appearance. With all the products that a man uses these days --hairspray, paste, dry shampoo-- it's important for him to use a shampoo adapted to his hair type. Because I like to style the hair very big, the Dove Men+Care Thickening Shampoo ($4.99, 12oz) is my favorite. It's a 2-in-1 formula, so you don't need a conditioner after washing your hair with it.
"To style your hair like Hugh, use a round brush to create a slight pompadour on the front. I always start by making the hair big, then I work it down. Once you get some shape, apply a little bit of Bosley Styling Mousse ($16, 6.6oz), specifically designed for fine hair.
"Follow with the Shu Uemura Shape Paste ($38, 2.5 fl. oz). Put a dime-size amount in the palm of your hand, and heat it up real good,
real fast. Apply it evenly through your hair without waiting, because within a matter of seconds the product can dry out. I don't use any hairspray purposely to keep a flowy, natural texture.
"If you have thick facial hair like Hugh's, groom it down using
the attachement #1 on the Wahl Pro Peanut Clippers ($44.14,
at Sears). For the face, use Dove Men+Care Sensitive Face Lotion ($7.49, 1.69oz), a brilliant moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
"Counter signs of tireness with Kiehl's Facial Fuel Eye De-Puffer stick ($20, 0.17 fl. oz), and keep your lips smooth with a matte lip balm -- you don't want glossy lips if you're Hugh Jackman. My favorite is the Peter Thomas Roth Matte Lip Balm, but it's a bit difficult to find.
"Finally, a little trick to avoid having a shiny forehead: Put a little bit of Make Up For Ever Micro HD Powder ($34, 0.3oz, at Sephora), a translucent powder. Dab it under your hairline with a puff, and you're
all set for the red carpet."
