Only nine months after being sworn in to replace Frida Giannini at the helm of Gucci, creative director Alessandro Michele has won his first major industry accolade: the British Fashion Council is presenting him with the International Designer of the Year award.
To date, Michele has shown four collection for the Italian brand -- two for men, two for women -- but in this short time, he's managed to give a good sweep to Gucci's dwindling image, and gave the brand what it needed the most: Some social media buzz and serious celebrity love.

On the red carpet, the likes of Jared Leto, Kirsten Dunst, and Dakota Johnson have already endorsed the designer's new direction for Gucci, which heralds a return to a carefree, androgynous 1970s spirit. Pop queen Madonna also tapped Michele as one of her costume designers on her Rebel Heart tour.
Only time will tell if Michele will help Gucci, currently ranked no.2 in the global luxury goods market, return to its Tom Ford-era heyday.
