The pandemic has been keeping some couples apart and has been forcing others to get to know one another a little more intimately while in quarantine. For Olympic skater Adam Rippon it has done both, leading him to get engaged to his boyfriend Jussi-Pekka Kajaala.

"JP and I didn't gt to see each other for almost all of 2020 because of the pandemic," Rippon wrote to Instagram today. "When there was finally a chance for me to go and see him in Finland, I jumped at it. I was there for a little over two months." And apparently, between helping shovel snow and brainstorming ideas for Rippon's NBC comedy, the two decided to take a new step in their relationship.

"In between all of that and binging the entire 4 seasons of The Crown, we bought ourselves some rings and said that magic word ... 'duh!'" Rippon joked. "We got engaged."

"I'm excited to marry JP because he's just the best," Rippon told People magazine. "He's kind, he's funny, and he's just as beautiful on the inside as he is on the out (which is a lot). He's my cheerleader and I'm his. I just love him a lot." The pair proposed to one another as a part of a date night in December 2020 at Hotel Kamp in Helsinki. They are likely to have a courthouse wedding as a result of the pandemic and met on Tinder in 2018.

"I think growing up, I never really saw myself getting married because I didn't see how it would happen," Rippon told Good Morning America, referencing the lack of LGBTQ+ relationships he saw at the time. "It was with JP, the first time I thought, 'Oh yeah, I know the feeling I can marry somebody.'"

Kajaala chronicles much of his life on YouTube. He's currently in the midst of building a house In Finland by himself and is posting updates to his channel.

"No woman, no cry," he wrote to instagram of the engagement. Rippon's mom, Kelly Rippon, replied with a quick note.

"Changing my bio to 'mom of seven' love you JP," she wrote.

Rippon isn't the first celeb to take his relationship to the next level during the pandemic. Over the holidays Jonathan Van Ness revealed that he got married while no one was looking. Months prior to that Niecy Nash simultaneously came out as queer and as a newly-married woman in an Instagram post. Just last month RuPaul's Drag Racewinner Jinkx Monsoon revealed they had gotten hitched. Love is in the quarantine it seems.
