After revealing that he and his boyfriend recently broke up, pop superstar and Out cover star Lil Nas X has opened up about the identity of his ex.
The "Industry Baby" singer just released his first album, Montero, and along with it, some new music videos. One of those, for "That's What I Want," features dancer Yai Ariza, who was rumored at the time to be Lil Nas X's boyfriend. Now, thanks to an interview with Sirius XM's Hits 1, we know the truth.
At one point in the interview, the hosts start asking X about the music video for "That's What I Want." "Now there are rumors that the lovely actor in the music video is your boyfriend," one of the hosts said, causing Nas to smile.
"We were dating, and we still are on very good terms, you know, we may date again in the future," he finally confirmed. "I love him, he's amazing. I wanted to just focus on my music right now."
When the host said that Lil Nas X and Ariza's chemistry is "off the hook," X got bashful and smiled, "They're the best person I've ever dated."
"Your eyes look like you're still in love," the host said when Nas was talking about Ariza. And he didn't deny it.
"I am still very much in love," he said, "but I'm trying to manage it. If it's meant, it'll happen in the future. Life is long."
Lil Nas X was first rumored to be dating Ariza after fans noticed that the dancer was the one who first licked Lil Nas X's neck during his SNL performance, then later, made out with him during the rappers' legendary BET Awards performance. Ariza went on to star in the "That's What I Want" music video, where he and Lil Nas get busy in a locker room shower and a tent, a la Brokeback Mountain.
Then in August, Nas opened up to Variety and said that after a long string of emotionally unavailable boyfriends, he "found someone special now." Nas continued, saying "I think this is the one. I can't explain it, it's just a feeling."
Unfortunately, Lil Nas recently revealed that the two are no longer together. "I was seeing someone, but I kind of decided I don't want to anymore," he told Andy Cohen on Sirius XM. "Maybe I'm floating around right now. I just want to work on music and every now and then, you know, maybe I'll kiss a guy every blue moon."
