It was a very special Mother's Day for The Handmaid's Tale star Samira Wiley and her wife Lauren Morelli, as the couple celebrated the birth of their first daughter.
"Happy 1st Mother's Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child--our gorgeous daughter, George," Wiley posted on her Instagram. "Welcome to the world, babygirl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother's Day two ladies could ask for."
The post came with an adorable photo of the newborn infant holding tight to each of her mom's fingers. This is truly what the holiday is all about. Morelli also posted the picture to her account with the caption, "4 weeks ago today, our daughter came into the world and changed everything. We are so happy, so grateful, and so tired. George Elizabeth, 4.11.21."
Wiley is currently starring in The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu. Her next project is the film Red, White and Water, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry. Distributed by A24, the film is about a soldier who struggles to adjust to life back home after suffering a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan. Morelli has recently written for and produced the Tales of the City update at Netflix, and directed an episode of the show Teenage Bounty Hunters.
Wiley and Morelli aren't the only celebs with big baby news this year. In April, Queer Eye's Tan France announced the impending birth of his first child. "So happy to finally share that WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!" he wrote on Instagram alongside of picture of him with an ultrasound of the baby photoshopped over his belly.
"No, I'm not pregnant, despite this VERY realistic pic," he wrote. "With the greatest gift/help of the most wonderful surrogate, Rob and I are lucky enough to be on our way to being parents this Summer. Something we've wanted for SOooo many years. Our hearts are so full right now. I cannot wait to hold this baby, and to show him so much love."
On Valentine's Day, soccer stars Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris announced that they had adopted a daughter, Sloane Phillips. ""My heart is exploding with joy," Harris wrote at the time. "We did it baby! All of the ups and downs, tears, stress, and anxiety was worth it to have this beautiful blessing in our arms."
Back in January, Grammy-nominated singer Halsey also announced that she was pregnant, showing off her baby bump. Screenwriter Alev Aydin is the father. Congratulations to all the happy mothers and parents!
