Congratulations are in order for Ross Mathews and his fiance, Dr. Wellinthon Garcia.
Right before the world entered pandemic mode, Mathews took a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and went on to meet his soon-to-be-fiance. Fast forward to the present day, and the longtime RuPaul's Drag Race judge is now on the cover of The Knotand sharing details about their relationship.
Garcia, who isn't particularly well-versed in pop culture, had no idea who the Drag Race judge and The Drew Barrymore Show cohost was upon meeting him by the hotel pool.
"He has a Ph.D. in education and I have a Ph.D. in pop culture. It's very, very different. But there's just such value in what we both do," Mathews explained. "Our worlds are so completely different that I'm in awe of him every day."
Before the entire world shut down, Mathews had been touring the country to promote his second book, Name Drop. Garcia came to visit him in different cities, but their relationship soon had to rely on Zoom and FaceTime so they could keep dating throughout the pandemic.
During one of Mathews' visits to New York City to spend some time with Garcia, he was asked by Drew Barrymore to appear on her daytime talk show. Mathews would soon land a co-hosting position on the show, which helped him settle down with Garcia in the Big Apple. In that sense, Mathews says that Barrymore was "instrumental in our love story."
Speaking of Barrymore, the Hollywood A-lister will be the flower girl at Mathews and Garcia's upcoming wedding.
"It just came up as we were talking about the wedding [on the show]," he revealed. "And she was like, 'Well, who's the flower girl?' I was like, 'You want to do it?' And she was like, 'Wait, are you being serious?' And I was like, 'Wait, are you being serious?'" It turns out that Barrymore meant it.
As far as Mathews and Garcia's actual wedding goes, it is being described as a "classic and chic with a tropical, festive flair." Mathews is very passionate about his Palm Springs lifestyle, so he wants their wedding to be an extension of their life on the West Coast.
