Matthew McConaughey may not be returning for Magic Mike XXL, but the upcoming sequel to 2012's Magic Mike is in no way lacking star power. Rom-com superstar Andie MacDowell, known for her roles in Groundhog Day and Four Weddings and a Funeral, is set to star in the sequel, Varietyreports.
Additionally, Zombieland's Amber Heard, who is currently working on projects alongside Billy Bob Thornton, James Franco, and Christopher Walken, will also be joining the film. These two leading ladies will likely be filling the void left by Cody Horn, who was not asked to reprise her role.
"It's a road trip movie and, put it this way, it's different enough that once you see it, you'll understand why we made a sequel," Greg Jacobs, who's taking over directing duties for Steven Soderbergh, assured in an interview with Indiewire. "No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice."
Heard and MacDowell will be joining several returning cast members, including Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello, when the film hits theaters July 1, 2015.
