Men in Shorts: Robbie Rogers-Inspired Comedy to Air on ABC
According to EW, Men in Shorts, a single-camera comedy based on the career of professional soccer player Robbie Rogers, will air on ABC. Rogers came out last year and became the first out man to play in a major North American sports league.
The show, written by Jordon Nardino and Claudia Lonow, will follow a young pro soccer player who comes out of the closet. Rogers himself has signed on as producer. The show will feature family and workplace comedy, hopefully in a 30 Rock/Parks and Recreation vein.
The Out100 2013 honoree is currently dating TV producer and writer Greg Berlanti. He has branched out from the sports world recently, creating his own menswear label and running his own style blog.
No word yet on any casting decisions, but if there's any influence from Berlanti, who has been stocking his new show The Flash with plenty of cute, young, gay actors (such as Wentworth Miller and Andy Mientus), it should be sweet.
