I write these words while holding back tears: The grande dame of drag, Dame Edna Everage, has kicked off her farewell tour across the U.S. Everage, a creation of Australian comedian Barry Humphries, has appeared on stage, screens big and small, and bookstore shelves for over 60 years.
The Moonee Ponds native took a break from her busy schedule to play "Not My Job" on NPR's news quiz show, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me. Host Peter Sagal, perhaps hoping that Dame Edna isn't truly singing her swan song (Edna's had her last goodbye tour three years ago), asked the 80-year-old comedian about other fairwell tours, taken from Rolling Stone's article 10 'Farewell' Tours That Didn't Stick.
During the game, Dame Edna revealed that she introduced Prince William to Kate Middleton, her parenting secrets, and how she nabbed her own shelf in the Buckingham Palace refrigerator.
