Yeezus Shades: Kanye Opens the Library on the Fashion Industry

Kanye Yeezy

Everyone circle up! Mr. West is giving a reading.

Sometimes (all the time) I wish Kanye would pull a Sam Smith or an Azealia Banks and just get off the damn Twitter. And other times (now) I'm glad he's got nothing else going on.

A self-proclaimed fashion outsider, despite being Kanye West and being married to Kim Kardashian-West, Kanye's struggled to find his footing in the famously cunty world of fashion. In his quest to be taken seriously as a designer, his shows are often met with ambivalence or downright derision.

He feels like he's been discriminated against in the fashion industry because he's not gay, despite a smattering of other not-gay fashion designers, and that sometimes he feels like the only person in the industry who's not crazy.

Hmm.

Anyway. Perhaps after seeing the last of too many suit jackets slouch down the runway in Paris, Mr. West thought to himself, aloud, "Karl Lagerfeld, I'm-a let you finish, but Yeezy Season 3 was one of the best fashion shows of all time!"

Whatever happened, Kanye went on an epic Twitter tirade--the only Twitter tirade he knows or acknowledges--about how fake the fashion industry is, how people need to get in formation behind Carine Roitfeld, and how much he loathes a suit jacket on a woman.

It was pretty special. A few excerpts:

Meanwhile, I love that Kanye is apparently BFFs with Balmain's Olivier Rousteing, Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, and Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia. When's that sex tape coming out?

Who is this "our" exactly?

Well, someone should.

This may be the most practical statement Kanye's ever made. Like, why would you put a suit jacket with that?

And what an analysis. Between Kanye coming for Fashion and Kim coming for Bette Midler--which is clearly the worse offense--the Kardashian-Wests...really need to get a hobby.
