The rumors were true: the Belgian designer succeeds to Hedi Slimane at the creative helm of YSL.
Shortly after Versace's sister label Versus announced that Anthony Vaccarello was leaving as creative director, Saint Laurent confirmed that the designer has been chosen to replace Hedi Slimane.
Vaccarello was the name on every fashion-savvy lips when the first rumors about Slimane's departure surfaced in January. Following the confirmation that he was stepping down last week, Vaccarello was touted as the favorite to become creative director of Saint Laurent.
The 33-year-old Belgian designer, who also has his namesake brand, will present his first collection for Saint Laurent in October --no word yet on whether or not he will bring back the 'Yves' in YSL.
Vaccarello follows a line of stellar designers at Saint Laurent since its late founder retired, from Tom Ford, to Alber Elbaz, to Stefano Pilati.
