There's a lot of queer content to look forward to during Pride!
Believe it or not, we are right in the midst of the early days of Pride season, and that means that we've got some excellent queer content coming our way!
Networks, studios, and streamers love to save their LGBTQ+ shows and movies for on or around this time of year, so there's a lot on the docket. Thankfully, we're here to help you figure out when the ones you want to see are premiering.
From movie theaters to Showtime, to Starz, to HBO Max, Hulu, and Peacock (among others), here are 16 upcoming LGBTQ+ shows and movies we're excited for this Pride season!
Hacks
Season 2 of the Emmy-Award-winning series returns with its terrific queer cast on May 12. The new season continues to follow legendary comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her writing partner Ava (Hannah Einbinder) as they set out on tour and try to build Vance's career back after last season.
Legendary
HBO Max's ballroom competition show Legendary is coming back for its third season on May 19. The first three episodes will be released on the 19th, with three more dropping each week until June 9, when the final episodes drop. While host Dashaun Wesley, and judges Jameela Jamil, Law Roach, and Leiomy Maldonado return, Megan Thee Stallion has left and will be replaced by Nope star Keke Palmer.
Drag Race All Stars 7
RuPaul's Drag Race begins another All Stars season, bringing back winners like Jaida Essence Hall, Jinkx Monsoon, Monet X Change, Raja, Shea Coulee, Trinity the Tuck, Drag Race UK's The Vivienne, and Yvie Oddly. Find out who will be crowned the Queen of all Queens on May 20.
Trixie Motel
Former Drag Race star Trixie Mattel is hosting this show on Discovery+ that chronicles her and her friends as they bought and renovated a seven-unit motel in Palm Springs named the Trixie Motel. The eight-episode series will feature Mattel as well as her boyfriend and co-owner of the motel, David Silver.
Fire Island
Joel Kim Booster's sexy, funny, and gay AF retelling of Pride and Prejudice debuts on Hulu on June 3. The film centers around "two best friends who set out to have a legendary summer adventure with the help of cheap rose and their cadre of eclectic friends." Fire Island was written by Booster and stars Booster, along with Bowen Yang.
Love, Victor
The third season of Love, Victor is also, sadly, its last. The final season will premiere on Hulu on June 15 and will also be coming to Disney+. In the third season, we'll finally get the answer to who Victor chose to see after Mia's dad's wedding, Rahim or Benji.
P-Valley
Starz' P-Valley returns for a sexy second season on June 3 with Uncle Clifford and Autumn vying for control over The Pynk, the Mississippi strip club the show centers around.
The Boys
Amazon Prime's gritty and gory superhero show returns for its third season this Pride Month on June 3, bringing bisexual superhero Queen Maeve back with it. The new season looks even more bloody and dark than the first two, and introduces a new hero, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles.
Queer as Folk
One of the shows we're most excited for this Pride season is Peacock's Queer as Folk reboot. The new version takes place in New Orleans and stars Jesse James Keitel, Johnny Sibilly, Fin Argus, Ryan O'Connell, Devin Way, and Candace Grace as a group of queer friends whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. Queer as Folk debuts on Peacock on June 9.
Umbrella Academy
Netflix's ambitious sci-fi show Umbrella Academy returns this year with Elliot Page playing Viktor Hargreeves in his first major role since coming out as trans. The new season will see the Umbrellas going head-to-head with the Sparrows and premieres on June 22.
The Chi
Lena Waithe's love-letter to the South Side of Chicago returns with its fifth season on Showtime on Friday, June 24. After last season saw Jake (Michael V. Epps) have a fateful run-in with the police, season five sees the characters looking to start a new chapter in their lives.
Crimes of the Future
Kristen Stewart returns to the big screen after her Oscar-nominated role in Spencer for this truly bizarre-looking science fiction film from David Cronengerg. The film is a body-horror thriller about a celebrity performance artist (Viggo Mortensen) and his partner (Lea Seydoux) who are investigated by the National Organ Registry and get tangled up in a mission to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.
Benediction
This biopic follows gay poet Siegfried Sassoon from his time in World War I to his opposition to the war, as well as his relationships with his wife and the men he truly loved. Benediction is directed by Terence Davies (A Quiet Passion) and stars Peter Capaldi and Jack Lowden as the poet at different times in his life. The film debuts in U.S. theaters on June 3.
Cocoon
This German film, directed by Leonie Krippendorff, stars Lena Urzendowsky as Nora, a shy 14-year-old girl who gets her first period, falls in love with another girl, and learns to stand up for herself all in one fateful summer. Cocoon will see a limited release in theaters on June 17.
Lightyear
The Pixar film no one asked for tells the "true story" of the astronaut who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toys in the Toy Story movies. Aside from starring Chris Evans as Lightyear, the movie also features a female character named Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) who shares a kiss with another woman in the movie. You can check out Lightyear on June 17.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Taika Waititi's second Thor movie explodes onto the big screen on July 8, wrapping up Pride season by giving Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) a queen to rule alongside her as King of Asgard. The movie looks bright and beautiful, and all of Waititi's recent projects (What We Do in the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death) have been exceptionally queer, so we're excited for this one.
