The limited-edition figurine from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum features the nation's Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, wearing his trademark dark suit and glowing smile. According to the museum's co-founder and CEO, Phil Sklar, the doll is proving a popular addition to their already extensive line of bobblehead figurines.

"We are excited to release the first bobblehead of Pete Buttigieg on National Bobblehead Day," Sklar said in a press release. "While he is currently the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, he will always be known as 'Mayor Pete' to the people in his hometown of South Bend, Indiana."

Sklar told the South Bend Tribunethe original idea of making a Buttigieg bobblehead doll came about during the 2020 Democratic National Convention, but the pandemic-induced slowdown postponed those plans.

"We had to put it all on pause, but we looked back and wondered if people still would be interested," Sklar told the Tribune.

The Buttigieg bobblehead doll will be limited to 2,021 numbered figurines, the number chosen in honor of the year Buttigieg was sworn in as Secretary of Transportation.

Most folks associate bobblehead dolls with sports and featuring well-known athletes, making them popular promotional giveaways and gifts at stadiums across the country.

However, Sklar noted the museum has a wide and diverse selection of bobblehead dolls including a few with LGBTQ+ themes.

The most popular bobblehead doll of late has been Dr. Anthony Fauci, with Senator Bernie Sanders in the mix as well.

Buttigieg made history as the nation's first out cabinet member confirmed by the Senate. He and husband Chasten officially announced they were expectant parents last year, then welcomed twins to their family.

The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and his husband were also featured in a recent documentary, Mayor Pete. The Amazon Prime documentary, directed by Jesse Moss and co-written by Moss, Amanda McBaine, and Jeff Gilbert, chronicled the meteoric rise of Buttigieg from small-town Indiana mayor, to historic out presidential candidate, to the first confirmed out gay cabinet member in U.S. history, and includes unprecedented intimacy with not just Buttigieg and his political team, but also his husband Chasten.

The Pete Buttigieg Bobblehead Doll retails for $25 plus $8 shipping and handling. You can view the museum's entire selection of bobblehead dolls at store.bobbleheadhall.com.
