RuPaul Reclaims Core American Values With Political New Album
"Ain't no way we going back in time."
"I am American," declares RuPaul repeatedly on his new political synth-pop single. "Ain't no way we going back in time," he chants above shimmering production, not-so-subtly throwing shade at President Trump's oppressive administration. The anthem is lifted off Ru's forthcoming studio album, American, slated for release March 24.
"The song 'American' is a beck and call to reclaim what this country really stands for which is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," RuPaul told NewNowNext. "And I think it's so important now to do that. What we have that the other side does not have is love and spirit and dancing and laughter and joy of life. That is our secret weapon and this album is a beck and call to our kind to lead the charge and fight for true American democracy."
The news follows RuPaul's big announcement last week that he's married to longtime partner Georges LeBar and arrives on the heels of Drag Race season nine, which will air on VH1 Friday, March 24--a new home and time slot for the queer reality show. The drag icon is also executive producing a new series about his early career in '80s New York.
