Monaé revealed that the iconic musician had a hand in the record before his passing.
Janelle Monae's new album, Dirty Computer, is out April 27, and we've just learned about an exciting new collaborator on the album: Prince.
Speaking with BBC 1, Monae revealed that the iconic musician had a hand in the record before his passing. "Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds," she said. "And I really miss him, you know, it's hard for me to talk about him. But I do miss him, and his spirit will never leave me."

She also explained that while "Make Me Feel" is a certifiable jam, it takes on a different meaning in the larger context of the full record. And she also made clear that the new album will be highly vulnerable and explore her feelings as a young black woman of the modern world:
"When you're putting out an album, it's a statement about who you are and what you have to say. I definitely have a perspective. I definitely am saying things that I haven't said before in the way that I am saying them."
