Ponytails up, Arianators, mother is back. At midnight on Friday, Ariana Grande dropped her new single "7 Rings" (which you'll be hearing floating out of open car windows for the next three months-seventy years) complete with a femme fatale fantasy music video starring her entire squad.
The track opens with a verse sampling the tune of "My Favorite Things" (featuring the opening instrumental from the "thank u, next" video)from The Sound of Music, as Grande recounts just what a boss she is. "You like my hair? Gee thanks, just bought it," she chants in the chorus, reigning over her very own Bad Girls Club. "Bought matching diamonds for six of my bitches."
The video co-stars the owners of the seven rings, which do actually exist: musician Njomza, 'thank u, next' songwriters Victoria Monet and Tayla Parx, influencer Alexa Luria, songwriter Kaydence and Grande's best friend, Courtney Chipolone.
Grande tweeted in December that she wrote "7 Rings" on "a pretty rough day, in New York City" when her friends tried to cheer her up with a trip to Tiffany's. "We had too much champagne. i bought us all rings. It was very insane and funny." On the way back to the studio, Njomza told Grande "'bitch, this gotta be a song lol,'" and the rest is herstory.
Seven rings to rule them all, seven rings to find them, seven rings to bring them all and in the darkness bind them....
