On the literal heels of dropping his track "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" alongside an instantly iconic music video, Lil Nas X has made history once again.
Nas X popped up on the music scene in 2019 with a hit that would not quit. The track: "Old Town Road." And though he's released quite a few bops since then -- hi, hello "Holiday" -- and has been drumming up support for his pitch-perfect music video for "Montero" people haven't stopped listening to the song that got him dubbed a "one-hit-wonder." Now, "Old Town Road" has become the most-streamed song in the U.S according to Chart Data.
According to the Twitter account, Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus has more than 2.9 billion on-demand streams.
“.@LilNasX and @billyraycyrus’ "Old Town Road" is the #1 most streamed song of all-time in the US (2.992 billion on-demand).”— chart data (@chart data) 1616732164
In January the song became the most certified song in U.S. history, having gone 14 times platinum. At the time it beat out other songs like "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber, as well as "All of Me" by John Legend, "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga, and "Firework" by Katy Perry. The track has also won two Grammy awards, two MTV VMAs, an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, as well as a Country Music Association Award.
But with that song having established its history-making status, Nas X is no doubt gearing up for an extended promo run for "Montero" and already has been mentioning working on the next single.
Yeah, we eating good.
