The ACLU Raised 6 Times More Money This Weekend Than They Normally Do in an Entire Year

In the past weekend, alone, ACLU received $24.2 million in online contributions.

Since Donald Trump imposed a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority nations, Americans have been pouring donations into the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) in unprecedented numbers.

The ACLU is a non-governmental organization comprised of about 200 staff attorneys plus thousands more volunteer lawyers dedicated to protecting and upholding the civil liberties laid out in the United States Constitution. They've assisted on such historic civil rights cases as Brown v. The Board of Education and Roe v. Wade.

Their typical yearly online donation-based income totals to around $4 million. But in the past weekend, alone, they've received $24.2 million in online contributions, over six times their normal annual sum. The spike is in large part due to celebrities and public figures matching donations in sizable figures:
