In one of his increasingly common displays of not know what he's talking about, Donald Trump took advantage of the chilling New Year's Eve forecast for the east coast to make an uninformed joke about global warming.
"Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!" Trump wrote in regards to potentially record low temperatures in the north east this weekend.
Ignoring the fact that Trump is also the one who once claimed that global warming in its entirety was a hoax being perpetrated by China, he makes the age-old mistake of countless global warming deniers and uses weather and climate interchangeably. What the east coast will be experiencing this weekend is a case of extreme weather, or, atmospheric conditions over a short period of time. Climate on the other hand, is the weather in an area over a long period of time.

Trump's mention of cost refers to his decision earlier this year to pull the United States out of the Paris climate agreement, which set goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions for each country involved. Trump said that the U.S. was taking on the financial burdens of other countries to help them meet their goals. Gee, it's almost as if all those countries in the agreement exist on the same planet threatened by global warming.
