GOP Representative Resigning Amid Allegations of "Catfishing" Men
Rep. Nick Sauer has resigned after it was alleged he was "catfishing" using an ex-girlfriend's photos-some of them explicit-to speak with other men on Instagram over a period of two years.
POLITICO broke the story Wednesday morning with the Illinois state representative submitting his resignation later that afternoon.
Sauer's ex-girlfriend, Kate Kelly, had met him on Tinder, but the two year relationship ended upon Kelly's discovery of Sauer's supposed infidelity. Sauer attempted to reconcile the relationship thereafter but to no avail.
It is reported that four months later, Kelly would receive a message from a stranger on Instagram informing her of an account pretending to be her, and she soon uncovered the account coincidentally surfaced around the time she began dating Sauer.

Kelly also makes the claim that Sauer "came to my house & confessed to catfishing men with my photos for 2 years to at least 8 men" in a complaint to acting Legislative Inspector General Julie Porter who was appointed after Illinois amassed "27 ethic complaints against lawmakers" over a three year period without a serving inspector general.
Sauer was also in the process of running for reelection, though he did not make reference to the future of his campaign in his resignation statement. He has also deactivated his social media accounts and websites after resigning.
For his time in office, Sauer struck up a conservative leaning voting record having voted against gun reform measures, tax increases and a bill turned law that authorized transgender individuals making changes to their birth certificate.
