Gay Dad Plans to Have Twins with Daughter’s Ex-Boyfriend

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow and his husband, Tony, gained notoriety after becoming the first gay couple to have a child through surrogacy in the U.K. and made headlines again this month when Barrie revealed he'd split from Tony and started dating their daughter's ex-boyfriend. Now the happy May-December couple want to have children of their own.

Drewitt-Barlow and 25-year-old Scott Hutchinson, his former assistant and daughter Saffron's ex, fell in love after Hutchinson dated his daughter, with whom he "never had a sexual relationship." The couple are now living in the same house with Barrie's husband, Tony, and the couple's two children, twins Saffron and Aspen. It's one big happy family, but they want to make it bigger.

According to The Sun, Drewitt-Barlow said he and Hutchinson want to have twin daughters and doesn't "want there to be any secrets and I want to get any negativity out of the way before our babies arrive." Tony has even agreed to be the godfather!

"I wanted to make sure that Tony was going to be OK with it, especially as he is seriously ill and in need of constant care and attention himself," Barrie explained. "I can't believe that 20 years ago I was doing the exact same thing with Tony and I'm here again, full circle. I'm excited but nervous now."

Drewitt-Barlow acknowledged that their family is "unorthodox" but "loving" and that their "priority is to have a stable home for our kids and what is now an extended family." He said, "It works for us -- and if people are shocked, well, that's their problem, not ours."

Drewitt-Barlow and Hutchinson plan to each fertilize an egg, both of which will be carried by a surrogate. The insemination is planned for sometime in the next three weeks. They're hoping for daughters so they can have "princesses to spoil." While Drewitt-Barlow "hadn't contemplated having any more children" at his age, Hutchinson "has always wanted to have a child of his own."

"[S]o I said if he wanted us to be parents together," Drewitt-Barlow continued, "I would support him in that and have a baby with him."

And if that baby has a cute boyfriend one day... who knows!
