Out100: John Krokidas

Director

Photography by Danielle Levitt

Krokidas has been obsessed with movies for as long as he can remember. "I would literally schedule my weeks by taking the TV Guide out with a red pen," says the director of this fall's Kill Your Darlings, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan. Krokidas had planned on a career in law, but during his senior year at Yale, his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. "A few weekends before he passed away, he told me that the one mistake he felt he had made in his life was choosing a career that wasn't his passion. He told me that whatever I did, I make my hobby my career." Krokidas took his father's words to heart, enrolled in film school at NYU, and labored over his debut feature. Though it's taken nine years, he has fulfilled his dream and shows every intention of building on it.
