The Norwegian-born, New York-based artist has flaunted his massive, messy, possibly mad installations, paintings, and sculptures in a rapid series of group and solo shows -- like this fall's "Bjarne Melgaard: Ignorant Transparencies" -- that have left the art world alternately disgusted, confused, and obsessed. The New York Times called him a "projectile vomiter"; New York magazine said work like his homage to gay porn stars who died young distinguishes Melgaard from the glut of aggressive bad-boy art-makers.
