The Moment: September 30, 1948:
Howard Hawks's Red River is released, featuring Montgomery Clift's first filmed performance.
Dave Karger lives and breathes movies, yet some of his strongest memories involve a stage. This year, the irrepressible Oscar guru, who in 2012 followed a 17-year run at Entertainment Weekly with a new gig as chief correspondent for Fandango, had the pleasure of seeing Lupita Nyong'o accept her trophy in the grand Dolby Theatre, where he'd interviewed her months prior. ("I told her she'd be back," the pundit says.) In the '90s, when he was a closeted college student, Karger saw the Broadway debut of Angels in America, which "changed [his] life." And fittingly, Fandango's evolution from ticket seller to multimedia brand has given Karger a stage all his own, with two exclusive Web series, Frontrunners and Weekend Ticket, and regular appearances on E!, Access Hollywood, and the Today show. "It's the perfect match," Karger says.
