We were excited when we heard the new film, Pee-wee's Big Holiday, was starting production and would be available on Netflix. And it just keeps getting better.
Earlier this week, Pee-Wee (Paul Reubens) revealed on his site that Joe Manganiello has been cast in the film. Could this be the "fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger" that was hinted at earlier that propels Pee-Wee to take his very first holiday?
"Joe's already my friend in real life- and he's tremendously talented and a terrific person! I am so glad we are FINALLY going to get to work together! This totally makes up for being cut out of Magic Mike and Magic Mike 2!"
Manganiello remarked:
"Paul Reubens is one of the great comic geniuses of our time. Growing up, my Saturday mornings were all about Pee-Wee Herman. I saw everything he did. I can't believe that I'm going to get to share scenes with one of the iconic figures of my childhood."
Judd Apatow put the project together with Reubens and is producing the film. Reubens co-wrote with Paul Rust (Comedy Bang! Bang!, Arrested Development), and John Lee (Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer), and Rust will make his feature film directing debut with Big Holiday.
Reubens toldEW last month that this film would be "very similar in style and tone to Pee-wee's Big Adventure," explaining that he "never really thought of Big Adventure as a family movie, but I didn't try to make an adult movie or a kid movie. We wanted to make something that appealed to a wide age range, and I think that's the case with this movie also."
