The GayVNs are back, but this time they are virtual. As the awards season kicks off, organizers are being forced to re-examine what a ceremony might look like with social distancing. This isn't just Hollywood though; as the SAG Awards and Golden Globes kick off every year, so do a slate of award shows around the adult industry. Within gay porn, the GayVNs are known as the "Oscars of gay porn." That event put on its virtual iteration on Monday night.
The livestream was hosted by Alec Mapa and Sherry Vine who awarded winners in some 29 categories. The show kept up its legacy of "trophy boys," where they have performers that are fairly new to the industry as presenters, with the likes of Damien Ellis, Eli Bennet, Jay Seabrook, Ray Dexter, and Jake Waters.
The winners were an interesting and buzzy mix. A Murdered Heart from NakedSword won Best Feature. That project included conversion therapy in its plot. Best Fetish Scene went to Tom of Finland: Leather Bar Initiation which was an installment in Men.com's Tom of Finland series that celebrated 100 years since the birth of the artist. A scene from Raging Stallion's Cake Shop also took home a trophy for Best Three-Way Scene while that project made headlines for inclusion of a MAGA hat.
After making history last year as the first Black gay porn performer to win Best Actor, DeAngelo Jackson returned this year to pick up Performer of the Year. Brock Banks, one of the industry children of Boomer Banks, was dubbed Best Newcomer.
In a tweet, Jackson called out the marked increase in performers of color winning awards.
The awards also boasted 15 fan categories. Max Konnor, Trip Richards, Teddy Torres, Cade Maddox, and Rocco Steele were a few of the winners there.
