Rose McGowan Wants to Return to 'Charmed' With Shannen Doherty
It's been 13 years since the beloved WB series Charmed went off the air, but the show still has an army of dedicated fans and Rose McGowan wants to give them a gift. At the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show, McGowan said she'd like to return to the series, along with her long-lost witch sister Shannen Doherty.
McGowan was doing on stage doing a Q&A when a fan asked if she'd ever come back to the cult favorite fantasy series that helped make her a star.
"That's a really hard one," she answered. "I think I would if it was a limited series, like maybe Netflix or Amazon or eight episodes, that would be amazing. [...] I would hope that Shannen Doherty would be in it, too."
That would be something special -- and reality bending! McGowan joined the cast of Charmed in 2001 when Doherty's character was killed off because of on-set issues. The two never actually appeared together on the show, which was then in its third season. Are we ready for the Power of Four?
Last year another cast member, Holly Marie Combs, who played sister Piper, said that she didn't see any possibility for a ninth season to the show, but she was open to a movie with the original cast.
Meanwhile, third sister Alyssa Milano has so far stayed out of talks about a reunion.
There is currently a Charmed reboot that's airing on the CW, and it connects with a whole new audience that admittedly the original never did. Just like the previous version, it's all about sisterhood and using magic to save the world, but under the stewardship of Jane the Virgin's Jennie Snyder Urman, the characters aren't all white and straight this time.
The reboot stars Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock, and Sarah Jeffery as a trio of Latina sisters (Mantock's and Jeffery's characters are Afro-Latinas). Middle sister Mel (played by Diaz) is also a lesbian in the show.
Even with these new Charmed Ones, calls for Milano, Combs, Doherty, and McGowan to reprise their roles have never slowed down. While nothing's set in stone, as more cast members vocally support a reunion, it seems more and more likely. Will the Power of Three be strong enough to bring back the original Charmed cast? Only time will tell.
