This is how it's slated to go down as of now.
The ongoing global pandemic has thrown a wrench into almost every schedule. Many annual events or scheduled happenings have been forced to postpone, putting their plans on indefinite hiatus until countries can get thins under control, or they've canceled altogether. This has extended to television. But there's one series that's rearing to come back and make up for lost time: hello RuPaul's Drag Race.
There were already reports that the series had plowed through the summer filming Drag Race season 13 as well as All Stars season 6. Now, comes news that RuPaul's Drag Race U.K. has been renewed for a third season even though season 2 was shut down in the middle of production. Both are set to be released in 2021.
"Looking forward to better days!" RuPaul said in a release. "I'm happy to announce the triumphant return of RuPaul's Drag Race U.K. Early in 2021, season two will arrive with all the hope, joy, laughter, and glitter you've come to expect from our brilliant queens. We're also currently casting season three with the best and the brightest Great Britain has to offer. We feel honored that you've embraced our little show, and our only wish is that we can offer a smile at a time when we can all use it the most."
The second season of the series will boast 12 contestants, up from the debut season's 10 as well as RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Graham Norton, and Alan Carr on the judging panel. Other than "early 2021," there's no news on when it will air.
Our bet is that it will kick off around February or March so that the third season of the series can return to its fall air date beginning in October. This would mean that we are set to have four seasons of Drag Race in 2021 already. There's been no confirmation on the second season of Canada's Drag Race or Drag Race Holland. The status of an Australian version of the series, announced back in 2019, also hasn't been given. Drag Race Thailand did not air in 2020 is not expected to come back for 2021.
