Here's All of JoJo Siwa's History-Making 'DWTS' Routines, Ranked
JoJo Siwa made Dancing With the Stars history when she and Jenna Johnson became the first same-sex dancing pair on the show. Now, she's making history again by making it all the way to the finals!
In the finale episode, Siwa put on two performances, getting perfect scores for both. The first performance was a fusion of ballroom styles while the second was a freestyle.
"You know coming here and being the first ever same-sex couple I think people didn't know what to expect," she said during the episode. "Winning the Mirrorball is not just winning it for me .. it's winning it for so many people around the world that maybe are afraid to be themselves."
Later, Siwa discussed how appearing on the series personally changed her. "Even though I am only 18, it feels like I've transitioned into a woman," she said, saying that her partner Johnson was the reason for that. "Jenna has single-handledly changed my life," she said.
The pair's high-energy freestyle performance was to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" as it was the track that Siwa said "made me comfortable being gay."
While Siwa didn't end up winning the show (that title went to NBA player Iman Shumpert), she won our hearts, and cemented her status as a gay icon.
JoJo Siwa's 'Dancing With the Stars' Performance, Ranked
In honor of the finale, here are all of Siwa and Johnson's dances from this season, ranked.
13. Quickstep
In their very first dance together, Siwa and Johnson did a quickstep to Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl." While it was fun and gave us something to look forward to in future routines, JoJo didn't reveal all her secrets, and a small slip up is reason enough to put this dance last.
12. Cha Cha
Dancing to "Rain on Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande gets Siwa and Johnson some bonus gay points. With Gaga, heavy bisexual lighting, and killer dance moves, this was just the beginning of how gay Siwa would get.
11. Argentine Tango
For Britney Spears week, the pair did their first Argentine Tango. This was the first time Siwa and Johnson really turned up the hotness factor in their dances. While this was fun, the best thing about this dance was it lead to Siwa and Johnson doing this tango for their redemption dance in the semi final.
10. Salsa
Dressed in all black and showing off some of her more physical moves (like flipping Johnson over her back!) Siwa really brought the power to this performance during Janet Jackson week.
9. Tango
For Queen week, Siwa and Johnson used their "Body Language" to show us what two women can really do! Dressed in disco bodysuits and with disco balls above them, they looked like a pair of queers dancing at Studio 54 and we loved it!
8. Finale: Tango / Cha Cha Fusion
JoJo's first dance in the finale combined two classic dances to make one great performance. This is where you can see how much fun JoJo is having, and has been having all season. She really deserved the win in our hearts.
7. Foxtrot
This was iconic. Dressed as Sandy and with some help from her dance partner dressed as Frenchy ready to give her a makeover, Siwa and Johnson did a beautiful foxtrot during Grease week. The pair got a much-deserved perfect score for this routine. Look at the emotion on their faces! This is called storytelling!!!
6. Contemporary
Siwa knew that turning it up was important in the semi finals, and so she and Johnson gave us this beautiful and heartbreaking routine. Dancing to Lews Capaldi's "Before You Go," Siwa and Johnson were romantic, dramatic, and sweeping. Another perfect score for the couple, this looked like a scene from a lesbian romance.
5. Viennese Waltz
Every queer girl dreams of being the prince charming to a princess, and during Disney Week, Siwa brought that fantasy to life. She makes an adorable Prince Charming, and dancing to "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" was like the dream a thousand lesbian's hearts had made coming true. This is pure elegance.
4. Jazz
Dressed like Pennywise from It, Siwa reminded us all why Halloween is Gay Christmas. This dance gave us spooky, it gave us fun, it gave us another perfect score from the judges! At this point in the competition, Siwa seems unbeatable.
3. Paso Doble
Dancing as popular femslash ship Mal and Evie from the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants, this routine was a tribute to queer fans and sapphic youth everywhere. This was the moment in week four of the season when we knew that Siwa was doing this for the gays, and was doing this only as a gay could. Thank you JoJo for making our Malvie dreams come true.
2. Finale: Freestyle
Dancing to "Born This Way," the song that helped Siwa come out, JoJo and Jenna SLAYED this finals performance, earning another perfect score. While they couldn't beat Iman Shumpert, this is one of the best dances by anyone this season, and is EXACTLY why we watch this show. If JoJo wasn't an icon before this, she is now. Love wins.
1. Argentine Tango Redemption
The second time Siwa and Johnson danced the Argentine Tango was also the best. Siwa knew she had to step it up in the semi finals, and she SERVED, securing a spot in the finale. The two scissored across the dancefloor, giving sapphics everywehre exactly what we want. This was fun, sexy, and smooth as hell, and got the couple another perfect score.
