It's the publication's 50th anniversary issue.
After half a century, Cosmopolitan UK is stepping into a more inclusive future.
Today, Cosmopolitan UK announced that model and activist Munroe Bergdorf was their latest cover star. Bergdorf, who has previously appeared on the cover of British Vogue, would front the publication's 50th anniversary issue in a beautiful red dress. The image, which features Bergdorf smiling with her hand on her hip, is history-making.
"I can't believe I'm writing this ..." she wrote to Instagram. "BEYOND excited to share that I am Cosmpolitan UK's covergirl for their 50th Anniversary Issue! I'm also the first transgender woman to ever feature on the cover in those 50 years of publication."
Bergdorf's inclusion has come after a series of other firsts for Cosmopolitan UK. In January 2020, Jonathan Van Ness covered the publication and made history as the first non-female person to front the glossy, as well as the first known nonbinary person. Then, RuPaul followed them, covering the publication in January 2021. Internationally, Laverne Cox covered Cosmopolitan South Africa's February 2018 issue.
Cosmopolitan UK teased that it would drop the full cover story tomorrow.
"I hope there's a young trans girl look at this cover thinking 'I can do it too and who I am is not going to hold me back,'" Bergdorf is quoted as saying in an Instagram post.
