Gloria Groove has unlocked another major achievement in her career: she now has more Instagram followers than RuPaul.
Groove has been a highly-successful drag queen, singer, and rapper in Brazil for many years. With that said, she truly leveled up her career in 2022 with the release of her latest album, Lady Leste, which includes hit songs such as "A Queda," "Leilao," "Bonekinha," and "Vermelho." On YouTube, the music video for "A Queda" has over 118 million views as of this writing. And on Spotify, Groove has 6.5 million active listeners.
Now, Groove has reached a new landmark: surpassing none other than RuPaul when it comes to Instagram presence.
On Friday, April 8, Groove reached 4,358,000 followers on Instagram and officially beat Ru's 4,356,000 followers. This makes Groove the third most-followed drag performer in the world in terms of Instagram followers. She's now only behind Pabllo Vittar, who is also from Brazil and has 12.5 million followers, and Vice Ganda, who is from the Philippines and has 10.2 million followers on the social network.
Groove's first studio album, 2017's O Proceder, had hit songs such as "Muleke Brasileiro" and "Imperio." But it was Groove's string of standalone singles over the years that solidified her career as a popstar. Those hit songs included "Bumbum de Ouro," "Provocar," "Coisa Boa," "YoYo," and "Paz, Amor e Grave," to name a few. She was also featured in the remix for "Brazil" by Iggy Azalea last year. In 2022, Groove performed at Lollapalooza Brazil and kicked off the Lady Leste Tour to promote her second studio album.
Given the huge influence that RuPaul and Drag Race have had on Groove, this is a truly mind-bending achievement for the Brazilian queen.
