This morning's Oscar noms may be hogging the pop culture spotlight today, but let's not forget about last night's People's Choice Awards! And although the PCAs may be voted on by a slightly different crowd than Oscar voters -- that is, Twihard tweens, soap-watching housewives and the occasional middle-aged man -- it's impossible to ignore one thing from last night: The People have chosen the Gays.
In addition toPerks of Being a Wallflower stealing the "Favorite Dramatic Movie" award from Magic Mike and The Vow, there was MTV's Awkward winning for "Favorite Cable Comedy" and Big Bang Theory winning for "Favorite Network Comedy." Perks and Awkward have gay characters, of course, and Big Bang Theory stars out actor Jim Parsons.
Continuing the trend of LGBT-friendly shows sweeping the TV categories, True Blooddominated the Premium Cable category and The New Normalnabbed the Network Comedy award. Both programs are arguably the gayest shows on TV right now. Then, of course, there was Chris Colfer stealing the Favorite Comedic TV Actor award from How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris, Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jim Parsons and OMG ALL OF THESE NOMINEES ARE GAY. Except for Family's Ty Burrell. But seriously! Gays literally dominated this category!
Also, Ellen won for Daytime TV Show. Pretty gay ceremony, right?
Oh, and P.S. How did Lea Michele win for Best Comedic TV Actress? Like, yeah there's a lot of Glee love out there, but were the People voting for the same Lea Michele that you and I know? As in, the try-hard who does things like this?
