RuPaul's Drag Race season six winner Bianca Del Rio is about to release a third installment for the Hurricane Bianca movie franchise.
Written and directed by Matt Kugelman,Hurricane Bianca: The Roots of All Evil is set to include Drag Race fan-favorites Willam Belli and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo along with fellow costars Rachel Dratch, Thora Birch, and Doug Plaut.
The plot involves Richard Martinez (Del Rio, a.k.a. Roy Haylock) coming home to Florida for his grandmother's funeral. This prompts a decades-old feud with his mother, who owns a homophobic fast-food restaurant chain. Richard then goes undercover as Bianca Del Rio and, with the help of his chosen family, aims to expose corruption and confront cults as he moves to shut his mother's business down.
Dratch is reprising her role as Vice Principal Debbie Ward, while Plaut returns as Bianca's friend, Rex. Belli also comes back as Bailey. Miss Vanjie will play cousin Antonio, and Birch will take on the role of the cult leader, Mary.
"I'm so excited to be working with this dream team," Kugelman told Deadline. "These are the funniest people I've ever met playing these incredibly lovable characters, and then we get to add the amazing Thora Birch into the mix as we've never seen her before: An eccentric villain! I cannot wait to share this adventure with the world!"
Producer Kimberly Montini of Cranium Entertainment also believes audiences are ready to "bridge the gap" between mainstream and LGBTQ+ markets. "Hurricane Bianca fans around the world will be pleased with this hilarious and timely sequel that is both commercially viable and continually stays true to its core messaging about artistic integrity," she said.
She also shared thanks to former producer Ash Christian, who unfortunately died of a heart attack in 2020.
"As a big fan of Hurricane Bianca films, this new sequel raises the bar to new heights," said producer Frank Donner of BLKBX Originals. "We couldn't be more excited to kickstart BLKBX Orginals' endeavors with a film people from all over can relate to with laughter at the heart of it all."
With no official release date yet in play, the film is slated to start shooting in early 2023.
