Schitt's Creek may have left Netflix, but Dan Levy is working on a brand-new project for the streaming service.

The multi-hyphenate star is currently working on a new cooking competition for HBO Max, The Big Brunch, as well as getting started on a new comedy movie for Netflix that he is set to write, direct, and star in.

"It's still in its early days. I'm an optimist, so I have high hopes. It's still very much in development," Levy told The Hollywood Reporterrecently. "I love genre and I'm a film student. I love the idea of seeing what I could do with a genre and in this case, I thought, 'What would my idea of a rom-com be?' It ended up having more to do with friendships in your 30s than actual romantic relationships. What would a love story look like if it was really about a group of friends in their mid-30s? The clarity that comes with age and the time you've spent with these people."

He continued:

"Sometimes we have people in our lives, decades-long friendships, but we know very little about them because the closeness and the intimacy of those relationships is so comfortable that we don't ask the big questions or investigate them in the way that someone that you meet for the first time might feel inclined to. There's romance in the movie, obviously, but really, it's a love story about friendship."

During the interview, Levy also elaborated on his creative process for the upcoming Netflix rom-com.

"It's been a combination of self-affirmations that everything's going to be fine to extreme panic," he explained. After writing a hit TV show like Schitt's Creek for many years, this turns out to be Levy's first time writing an entire movie all by himself. As expected, it took him some time to get comfortable with this new format and its constraints.

Meanwhile, Levy is exploring the unscripted space for the very first time as the host and producer of HBO Max's The Big Brunch. He is also running his successful company DL Eyewear - so it's safe to say that he's a pretty busy bee for the foreseeable future.

The Big Brunch is set to premiere in 2022 on HBO Max.
