This FIT graduate creates modern-day “menswear” meant for any gender.
Andrew Morrison hopes to change the way you think about the classic tuxedo. In fact, his "menswear" collection is meant for both men and women. As a finalist of the Out Fashion Vanguard Awards, Andrew hopes to grow his business and bring his innovative designs to a larger market.
While Andrew has been involved in the fashion industry for many years, he only started designing his own line about a year ago. His original background is in the production end of fashion, where he observed designers such as Zac Posen at work. It was only after he designed and created a jacket for himself to wear to a dinner party that he started making more pieces.
"I design for a romanticist," Andrew says about his design aesthetic. He incorporates simple shapes into a modern look, making the clothing feel "sexy and youthful, yet mature." He designs looks that can be broken down from a full outfit into separate pieces to be integrated into one's everyday wardrobe. Andrew considers Daphne Guinness, Tilda Swinton and Andy Warhol among the list of people who inspire his fashion and design aesthetic.
Meet the other two Out Fashion Vanguard Finalists Kim Mesches and Marcel Coleman Jr.. Stay tuned to see all three progress as they each design a custom look to be showcased at the Out Fashion Vanguard Awards in Los Angeles on March 30th.
