There was a lot of great gay TV in 2025. But Overcompensating — Benito Skinner’s inspired-by-life dramedy about a closeted jock beginning college — definitely made the grade.
Skinner — a comedian and influencer also known as Benny Drama — is proud to have assembled a queer cast (also honored in the Out100) for a queer show that debuted at number 1 globally on Prime Video. While creating Overcompensating “opened up a lot of old wounds … I think I knew that at least one queer person could watch and maybe feel like they were seen for the first time on-screen,” he shares. Additionally, “I trust myself so much more now and maybe even forgive myself for some of the things I did while I was in the closet.”
Happily, Overcompensating is green-lit for season 2. Skinner is working on that as well as a feature script with castmate Owen Thiele, which “might be my favorite thing I’ve ever written!” @bennydrama7
