Make no mistake, Megan Rapinoe is not going to the ducking White House. Ah, I meant she's not going to the fucking White House -- stupid autocorrect.
Rapinoe, one of the most prominent members of the record-setting women's national soccer team dominating the World Cup in France this month, says that she doesn't expect an invitation to meet President Donald Trump.
A reporter from Eight by Eight magazine asked Rapinoe if she was excited about going to the White House, which has become a tradition for America's championship teams. She immediately scoffed and said, "I'm not going to the White House," before adding that she hardly expects to even be invited.
“Q: “Are you excited about going to the White House?”

Megan Rapinoe: “I’m not going to the fucking White House.”
https://t.co/OosAQMjYsh”— Erick Fernandez (@Erick Fernandez) 1561489779
This follows Rapinoe's on-field protest of the Star-Spangled Banner, which she began years ago as former NFL player Colin Kaepernick led protests from coast to coast to highlight racial inequality and police brutality against people of color.
Of course within hours, Trump fired back, claiming he was a "big fan" of the "American team and Women's Soccer," and added he is "now inviting the TEAM, win or lose." He then lambasted her for disrespecting "our Country, the White House" and the American flag for her protest.
“Women’s soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is “not going to the F...ing White House if we win.” Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level...”— Donald J. Trump (@Donald J. Trump) 1561560157
“....in our Country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House. I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven’t yet....”— Donald J. Trump (@Donald J. Trump) 1561560157
“....invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”— Donald J. Trump (@Donald J. Trump) 1561560157
Soon after, teammate Ali Krieger, chimed in to add that they also plan to sit out an invitation to the White House.
“In regards to the “President’s” tweet today, I know women who you cannot control or grope anger you, but I stand by @mPinoe & will sit this one out as well. I don’t support this administration nor their fight against LGBTQ+ citizens, immigrants & our most vulnerable.”— Ali Krieger (@Ali Krieger) 1561571975
Rapinoe and the rest of the team will take on the French team in a quarterfinal match on Friday. In a brief interview, Rapinoe told Out earlier this year that the US Women's team was preparing for an inevitable bout against France, expecting a tough match since they'll be on France's home turf.
