After two successful seasons that garnered an enormous fanbase on social media, Young Royals is coming to an end in 2023.
On Wednesday, December 13, Netflix announced that Young Royals has been renewed for a third and final season that will air next year. The main cast is all set to return for this final installment, including Edvin Ryding (Prince Wilhelm), Omar Rudberg (Simon), Malte Gardinger (August), Frida Argento (Sara), and Nikita Uggla (Felice).
The co-creator and head writer of Young Royals, Lisa Ambjorn, will also come back to work on season three.
"If someone had told me in 2019 when this little universe was just a tiny idea that had been planted in my imagination and started to grow and consume my every waking thought, that it would turn out to be a global success saga spanning over three seasons -- shaping new talent both in front of and behind the camera and creating a fandom that would take on a life of its own and actually change people's lives for the better -- I would have said TOLD YOU SO," she wrote in an emotional Instagram post.
Ambjorn continued:
"No jk it's actually beyond anything any of us could have ever dreamed or hoped for, and it's all thanks to you -- our viewers. Your commitment and love for [Young Royals] has given us the honor and privilege of getting to see our story through. Because one thing I did know in 2019 was how it all was gonna end. And now my friends, it's coming. This season is the last one. Let's start... [heart emoji]."
Fans are already anxious, nervous, emotional, and excited to see how the love story between Prince Wilhelm and Simon will reach a conclusion in this final season. It's fair to say that their relationship has been quite a roller-coaster ride, but fans are hoping that these characters will get a happy ending.
With Young Royals coming to an end, it seems like a crossover event with Heartstopper is not in the books for those shows after all. Nonetheless, Young Royals stans are still getting a third season, and the Heartstopper fandom is prepping itself for at least two more.
Long live the Young Royals. We can't wait to see how their story will end!
The two first seasons of Young Royals are now streaming on Netflix.
