Despite how beautifully diverse the season five cast of MTV's reality dating series Ex on the Beach turned out to be, some fans still insist on spewing transphobic remarks on social media.
This week, model, actress, and Ex on the Beach contestant Arisce Wanzer had to shut down a transphobic comment regarding her relationship with costar Mike Mulderrig.
"Michael is dating a man that wants to be a [girl]," the fan wrote in a particularly nasty post on Twitter.
Wanzer quote-retweeted the message with a comment, saying, "There's the transphobia we know and love."
But the clap-backs didn't end there.
"All my trans girls know this too well, but tt's NEVER a pretty girl spewing out the transphobic rhetoric," Wanzer noted in a subsequent tweet. "Shrek always the first one on to call the dolls a 'man.' Girl, we're laughing at you, you could NEVER. #TruthBeTold."
Despite appearing as exes on Ex on the Beach, it's clear that Wanzer and Mulderrig have a healthy friendship and always have each other's backs. Later that night, Wanzer retweeted Mulderrig as he also defended himself from online haters.
"Some of these kids will be like 'you're fat, ugly & irrelevant' looking like this," he tweeted.
Wanzer re-shared Mulderrig's post, adding: "The accuracy." Then, Wanzer shared a meme of the so-called "TERF Starter Pack," which includes ripped underwear, a low credit score, and yellow teeth.
It's great that Wanzer is standing up for herself when it comes to certain Ex on the Beach fans who insist on sharing transphobic hate on the internet. Mulderrig has also faced a fair share of attacks on his bisexuality, prompting him to tweet some hilarious responses. Overall, Wanzer and Mulderrig aren't letting these fans erase or make fun of their gender identities and sexual orientations - even if they are exes for a good reason.
Ex on the Beach airs Thursday nights at 8/7c on MTV.
