Get ready, Heartstopper stans - Sahar Zahid is coming to Netflix!
Fans of the Heartstopper graphic novels are familiar with Sahar, a former student at the Harvey Greene Grammar School for Girls who eventually transfers to the Truham Grammar School. She happens to be best friends with Elle Argent, as well as Nick Nelson and Tara Jones.
Netflix has confirmed that Sahar will appear on Heartstopper season two, and the streamer is now hosting an open casting call to find the perfect actress for the role. A post shared via the official Heartstopper account on Instagram read:
"We are looking for a plus-size actor of British South Asian heritage who identifies as female or non-binary. Professional experience is not essential. Must be UK based. Sahar is in Year 11 at Higgs. No nonsense, independent, a little cynical at times. You must be available from autumn 2022."
This casting process for Heartstopper also notes that producers "would like to ensure performers from the LGBTQIA+ community feel inspired to apply along with allies to our community." In turn, it is explicitly detailed that this open call is only being held for the character of Sahar, not for any other characters.
Besides the casting information, this post also indicates that season two of Heartstopper will begin filming in the fall of this year. Netflix has already renewed the series for two more seasons, but a premiere date for season two is still being kept under wraps. Once production is kicked into high gear, though, fans can hope that more details will follow.
Heartstopper season one is streaming on Netflix.
