Editor's note: this post contains MAJOR spoilers for the season 31 finale of Dancing With the Stars.
We couldn't be prouder of Shangela's journey on Dancing With the Stars. Not only did she make history as the first drag artist to ever compete on the American version of the beloved reality competition show, but she also made it to the grand finale of season 31. Now, the finale results are in, and a winner has been crowned!
After 10 weeks of fierce competition on DWTS season 31, Shangela and her partner, pro dancer Gleb Savchenko, made it all the way to the grand finale. Their fellow top four finalists included Charli D'Amelio (with Mark Ballas), Gabby Windey (with Val Chmerkovskiy), and Wayne Brady (with Witney Carson).
Overall, Shangie was consistently safe throughout the season, rarely being in any real risk of being eliminated. As the competition narrowed down, however, some viewers wondered if the RuPaul's Drag Race star and We're Here cohost would make it to the finale. Even though it wasn't easy, Shangela gained some momentum with the judges and did qualify to compete for this season's Mirrorball Trophy.
Shangela performed two competitive numbers at the grand finale of DWTS. First, she performed a quickstep number to "Queen Bee" by Rochelle Diamante. Then, Shangie danced freestyle to a medley of "Survivor" by Destiny's Child and "Call Me Mother" by RuPaul. As expected, the judges were absolutely dazzled by Shangela's charisma, high energy, and dancing skills.
In the end, Shangie scored a 36 for her redemption performance of "Queen Bee." She then scored a perfect 40 for her drag-tastic performance of "Survivor"/"Call Me Mother." After all of the finalists' scores - as well as the public votes - were taken into consideration, Shangela finished Dancing With the Stars season 31 in fourth place. In turn, D'Amelio was crowned the winner of the season.
With certain contestants being frontrunners all season long and getting the highest scores of the night week after week, DWTS fans knew that it was probably an uphill battle for Shangie to win the whole show. And yet, Shangela represented the LGBTQ+ community and drag artists this entire season and did her very best from start to finish. In our hearts, Shangie will always be a true champion!
