Editor's note: this post contains spoilers for the grand finale of MTV's Ex on the Beach season five.
The fifth season of MTV's Ex on the Beach has come to an end, and the LGBTQ+ contestants on the show have had pretty different experiences coming out of it.
Going into this season, Ex on the Beach introduced viewers to LGBTQ+ cast members such as Joelle Brian, Jonathan Troncoso (World of Dance), Mike Mulderrig (Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club), Arisce Wanzer (Strut), Emily Salch (Love Island USA), Kyra Green (Love Island USA), and David Barta (Paradise Hotel). This lineup of contestants was delightfully diverse when it came to its casting individuals under the LGBTQ+ umbrella.
Nonetheless, the queer cast members of Ex on the Beach season five had relationship problems just like everyone else, and many of them were also on a path of self-discovery that extended way past this series. At the end of this season, some exes made amends, others went their separate ways, and a few contestants found love in the villa.

Joelle Brian and Jonathan Troncoso had a roller-coaster journey on Ex on the Beach that had very low lows. At the end of the day, though, Brian declared that he is still willing to work through things with Troncoso and keep giving their relationship a shot for as long as possible, despite their differences as individuals.
Troncoso, on the other hand, had a different outlook on his relationship with Brian.
Brian came into Ex on the Beach as Troncoso's ex, so it was up to Troncoso to decide whether or not he wanted to keep pursuing a relationship with Brian at the grand finale of Ex on the Beach.
Even though Brian was willing to keep working through their issues, Troncoso decided that enough was enough. Troncoso ultimately chose to leave the show single, saying that he couldn't hurt Brian yet again and that they were better off not insisting on a failed relationship.
Overall, Mike Mulderrig struggled to contain his habit of gossiping around on Ex on the Beach, but he still seemed to genuinely want to be in a relationship with Arisce Wanzer. Despite not letting Wanzer talk all that much at the finale, Mulderrig did reassure her a million times and said all the right things that Wanzer had been wanting to hear all along.
In the end, Mulderrig and Wanzer walked out of the show together.

The one big condition that Wanzer established to stay in a relationship with Mulderrig after Ex on the Beach is that they should now be able to date and be a couple not only in the confines of their homes, but also out in the real world. Mulderrig apologized for making her feel bad in the past and promised that they'd now be a very public couple.
Wanzer joked that she might've "won" Ex on the Beach since she was the only contestant to walk of season five having worked through her issues with her ex and going back home with him.

After meeting on the first season of Love Island USA, Emily Salch and Kyra Green went on to date and catch feelings for each other. Their relationship played out on Ex on the Beach, and it wasn't always easy for them to see eye to eye.
Generally, it seemed like there was no turning back for Salch and Green following their breakup. At the end of the day, though, Salch and Green ended things pretty well with each other. In fact, they forgave each other and even swore to be friends again.

With things all patched up in regard to her relationship with Salch, Green opened herself up to a new relationship with David Barta, who came out on the show as pansexual.
There was a lot of doubt surrounding whether or not they'd remain a couple until the end of Ex on the Beach and if they'd pursue a relationship outside of the show. In fact, many of their costars alerted Green to Barta's tendencies of jumping from one relationship to another all season long.

As far as Barta is concerned, Ex on the Beach was an opportunity for him to come out of the closet and explore his pansexuality in a safe environment. When season five started out, Barta admitted to having feelings for Mulderrig. Then, his head was turned upon seeing his ex, Danielle "Dani" Cohen, walking onto the beach. Lastly, Barta went on to drop Cohen to pursue a new relationship with Green. This caused his costars to declare that Barta was suffering from a "shiny object syndrome."
While she did doubt Barta's behavior on Ex on the Beach, Green insisted on their relationship and it all paid off in the end. Barta and Green went home together at the finale of Ex on the Beach. In the closing credits, it was revealed that they were still together and had even moved in together recently.
